In March 2024, voters in Woodland’s Area Two recalled Woodland School Board Trustee Emily MacDonald. The recall was initiated by parents, teachers, and activists who were deeply concerned after Trustee MacDonald made transphobic remarks during a School Board meeting in June 2023.

As We Recall tells the story of how the recall started, the challenges faced by the campaign, and the ultimate success that led voters to reject MacDonald by a 2:1 margin. In summer 2024 Davis Rep premiered a draft of the play based on over twenty interviews conducted by the company; in summer 2025 we are working with a group of actors, musicians, and dancers to further dramatize this uplifting story with an eye towards a full production.
